Located 30 miles northeast of Corpus Christi,TX, the city of Rockport, Texas is situated on a peninsula that juts out into the Gulf of Mexico with Copano Bay to the north and Aransas Bay to the south. With a population of just over 9,000, this Gulf Coast town was named after a long rocky ledge that runs along the shores of the city.
The waters surrounding Rockport provide residents and visitors with a warm and refreshing sea breeze and a plethora of outdoor, aquatic activities. Visiting the exhibits at the Aquarium at Rockport Harbor is a fantastic way to learn about the waters surrounding the city and the local marine species of the Texas Gulf coast. The Rockport Beach is a great place to take the family for a nice weekend getaway. This beach is one of Texas’ four Blue Wave Beaches that exist along the Texas Gulf coast.
Rockport also hosts many festivals and events throughout the year. The most prominent of these events is the city’s annual Oysterfest. Each year the residents of Rockport and the neighboring town of Fulton, TX enjoy carnival rides, games, food, and the highly anticipated oyster eating contests which raises money for the Fulton Volunteer Fire Department.
