Tyler, Texas, also known as the Rose City, is located in Smith County, Texas about 100 miles southeast of Dallas, TX. Tyler is by far the largest city in its area with a population nearing 100,000 and a metro area with over a quarter of a million residents. Tyler is called the Rose City because one of its oldest and most well-known industries is the rose growing industry. To celebrate this fact, Tyler holds an extravagant annual Rose Festival and Parade. There is also a Rose Museum in Tyler that chronicles the history of this festival and the rose industry.
Tyler’s culture might start with roses, but that’s not where it stops. You can also check out the Tyler Museum of Art, the Historical Aviation Memorial Museum, The Goodman Museum, and various other museums around the city. Tyler was also recently named the “Most Cowboy City in Texas,” because it ranked second in the state for the number of western stores it has per capita, and ranked first in the state for the number of country radio stations it has per capita.
