Texas Independence Day Celebrations

by David Sung

Texas Independence Day celebrates the signing of the Texas Declaration of Independence, which resulted in Texas breaking away from Mexico to become the Republic of Texas. The Texas Declaration of Independence was signed on March 2, 1836. Though the declaration was signed in March, it wasn’t until April 21, 1836 when the final battle of the Texas Revolution was fought known as the Battle of San Jacinto. Texas Independence Day remains a cause for celebration in the highly patriotic state of Texas.  This year will mark the 178th year of Texas independence from Mexico. Texans recognize their independence with festivals, parades, events, and parties all over the state.
