Situated along Interstate 15 about forty miles south of Salt Lake City, Orem, Utah is a medium size city of 85,000 and best known for being a hub for technology start-ups. Unlike most new age tech hubs, Orem isn’t a city filled with young singles and a hot club scene. Instead, the city boasts one of the best family friendly atmospheres in the country, landing at fifth place on Forbes “Best Cities to Raise a Family” in 2010. The city even bills itself as “Family City USA.”
There are several family-friendly events as well as affordable activities in Orem. The annual Orem Summerfest features a craft fair, carnival rides, a parade, and fireworks. The event also has a car show, a golf tournament, and an art show. The Hale Center Theater presents live musicals, comedies and dramas for the whole family. Nickel City is a popular fun center that has more than 100 games for all ages. Per its name, the Nickel City’s arcade has games that only require nickels. If it’s aquatic fun you crave, Orem has one of the largest swimming centers in the area, the Scera Pool.
