Based on 2012 estimates, San Antonio, Texas is the second largest city in Texas with a population of 1.3 million and the seventh largest city in the country. The city is home to several military installations including Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, and Randolph Air Force Base, as well as several unique tourist attractions such as the Alamo, the Mission Trail, and the San Antonio River Walk. In 2011, Forbes.com ranked San Antonio as having one of the 10 best downtowns in the United States.
Also in 2011, the Milken Institute ranked San Antonio as the best-performing city of the 200 largest metro areas in the nation. The index took several factors into account including the availability of jobs, wages, and technology performance to rank the nation’s top cities. A 2012 study by Livability.com ranked San Antonio 3rd for affordable vacation destinations in the US. You don’t have to be a tourist to have a good, affordable time in San Antonio though.
