- 05/04 - Houston Dragon Boat Festival - Houston
The Buffalo Bayou will be overflowing with people and Asian-themed Dragon boats at the 17th Annual Houston Dragon Boat Festival. Corporate and community teams will paddle their way through the waters of downtown Houston, while visitors and spectators will enjoy stage-based festivities celebrating Asian and Asian-American culture at Allen's Landing.
- 05/05 - Cinco de Mayo with Kinder HSPVA - Houston
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Discovery Green with performances by Kinder HSPVA mariachis, ballet folklórico and more! Bombón’s La Comadre (Mel Gomez) and DJ Gracie Chavez will emcee.
- 05/08 - Hispanic-American History Through Cinema: Alatriste - Houston
Imperial Spain, 17th century. Diego Alatriste, a valiant soldier in the service of his majesty, is fighting in the Dutch Revolt at Flanders. In an ambush of the Dutch, his comrade in arms, Balboa, is fatally wounded and makes a request of Diego that he promises to fulfill: take care of his son, Iñigo, and keep him away from serving in the army. Later, Alatriste, who lives by selling his sword, is hired along with another mercenary, the Italian Gualterio Malatesta, to kill two mysterious characters who are traveling incognito to Madrid.

Celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month at AsiaFest! An international bazaar, performances, arts and crafts, fusion cuisine, and live demonstrations await at Asia Society Texas Center's annual festival. New this year, guests will embark on an adventure through Asia, using a "passport" to explore different regions' traditions, cultures, and food! This event is FREE and open to the public.
- 05/11 - The Chocolate Case Film Screening - Houston
Fair Trade Houston will host a screening of the powerful new documentary, The Chocolate Case, as they celebrate World Fair Trade Day and Mother's Day weekend. Come learn about the journey of Tony's Chocolonely and why where your chocolate comes from matters. PLUS - free chocolate! Come for the delicious treats, stay for the movie and be a part of the worldwide celebration of World Fair Trade Day. It's all free!

Heights Mercantile Mother’s Day Market will feature local artists and vendors along the promenade and sidewalks of Heights Mercantile the day before Mother’s Day! This is the perfect place to pick up gifts for your favorite mamas!
- 05/18 - Pull for Puppies at CityCentre - Houston
Bring your pup to CityCentre and hang around other dog lovers at the 2019 Pull for Puppies Dog Walk and Pet Festival. Dogs and their humans can take part in a dog walk and parade ($30) around the CityCentre plaza as well as dog tournaments including Tug-of-War ($30) and the largest Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament in Texas. There will also be a vendor marketplace, dogs to adopt from Friends for LIFE, face painting, balloon animals for the kids and more activities for the whole family.

Join Copperfield's Books as we celebrate our 5th anniversary with our 4th Annual Local Author Fair! Nearly 25 local artists and authors of adult, young adult and children's fiction, as well as non-fiction inspirational and spiritual authors, will be on hand to meet and greet and share their latest works. Stop in and support your local artist and author community, and enjoy free refreshments, giveaways, raffle prizes and more!
- 05/23 - Avenida Houston presents Party on the Plaza - Houston
Avenida Houston’s “Party on the Plaza” is returning to downtown with a new lineup for spring. This concert series presents free, live performances by local, regional, and national bands, as well as food, games, craft brew stations, and more!
- 05/30 - Thursday Concerts - Houston
University of Houston-Downtown's Thursday concerts will showcase the best music of the Gulf Coast. Blankets, lawn chairs and picnics are welcome; food, beer and wine are available for purchase. No glass containers or outside beverages are allowed.

Playhouse on the Prairie presents Oz! There’s No Place Like It!, an immersive theatrical experience for the whole family. Things have been pretty normal since Dorothy came back from the land of Oz, so you can imagine her surprise when her favorite chicken strikes up a conversation. The 65th Annual League City Music Fest & BBQ Cook-Off helps the League City Lions Club raise money to provide support for many local charities. Come and grab some beer, listen to some local bands, have some fun, and meet some new friends!
- 5/2-5/5 - DASH Spring Market - Houston - $10
Attendees of the DASH Spring Market will have the opportunity to shop over 80 unique dealers brought together by the DASH founders, who travel all over the country. The weekend kicks off on Thursday night with the First DASH Preview Party giving shoppers a “first look” at unique décor, gifts, and design trends. Party-goers will enjoy live music, an open bar, light bites from neighborhood favorites, Island Grill and Relish Restaurant & Bar, and a silent auction benefiting Dwell with Dignity. On Sunday, celebrate Cinco de Mayo with a shopping fiesta. Think roaming bar cart, special activities and entertainment throughout the day.
- 5/3-5/5 - Houston Polish Festival - Houston - Free-$5
It is the cultural extravaganza filled with all things Polish. There’s plenty of pierogi, golabki, and kielbasa, but that’s not all! Watch traditional dances, listen to live music, taste some freshly made desserts and immerse yourself in our culture. There will also be a child friendly area full of exciting games, face painting, bounce houses, and other fun activities to keep the kids entertained.
- 5/3-5/5 - Disney's Jungle Book KIDS - Sugar Land - $10-$20
Banished by the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan, a human boy named Mowgli and his panther friend, Bagheera, are on the run in the deepest parts of the jungle. On their journey, the two meet a sinister snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants and a giant bear named Baloo, who teaches them the swingin’ musical rhythms of the jungle. After surviving a dangerous encounter with a band of monkeys led by King Louie, Mowgli and Bagheera are forced to run for their lives. When Shere Khan returns, our heroes must rally their fellow animals into battle and restore peace throughout the jungle.

Go ahead, make her day! Treat Mom to Churrascos' Mother's Day Brunch featuring Churrascos Classics. The Brunch Buffet is from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, and the dinner menu starts at 4 pm and goes until 9 pm. For earlier reservations, please contact us directly by phone. All moms receive a $20 dining certificate for future use.
- 05/12 - Mother's Day Paint Partii - Houston - $35
Drink mimosas, frozen drinks with flowers, and paint a beautiful bouquet for mom on the beautiful Holman Drafthall patio. - 05/18 - Pull for Puppies Dog Walk & Pet Festival - Houston - $30-$40
Celebrate being a dog lover on Saturday, May 18th at CityCentre Houston. This is also a fundraising event for the Friends for Life Pet Shelter. To participate in the Dog Walk, each human is $30 (dogs are FREE). In addition to the Dog Walk & Parade, we will also have the largest Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament in Texas, a Tug-of-War Tournament ($30 registration), a vendor market, and puppies to adopt from Friends for Life!

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Come Downtown and party with your favorite margarita bar! We have over 70 infused tequilas to choose from that we make right here. We are all about fresh juice, and we are gonna squeeze more limes than just about anyone in town. This is a fiesta for the ages! - 05/19 - Tacos Over Texas - Houston - Free-$40
The Ninfa Laurenzo Scholarship Fund will hold its second annual fundraising event, Tacos Over Texas, in collaboration with El Tiempo Cantina and The Original Ninfa’s on Navigation, bringing together chefs from around the country to share their cooking skills in a friendly competition that celebrates the history and transformation of Houston’s passion for multicultural food. Guests can enjoy live music and unlimited samplings from participating chefs and restaurants, plus beer, margaritas, and more.
- 05/19 - Houston Pasta Festival 2019 - Houston - $25-$40
Over 20 Houston restaurants will participate in the second annual Houston Pasta Festival, including some of the city’s most popular Italian chefs and restaurants, from ROMA Italian Eatery and BOH Pasta to Paulie’s and Pizza Motus. Enjoy long and short pasta, stuffed pasta, layered pasta, and a wide variety of sauces and toppings, and attend a panel discussion on “Pasta Today in Houston” with leading Houston-based food experts and writers.

The Taste of Louisiana Festival will feature Louisiana food, music, and culture. There will be 20+ Louisiana food vendors, arts & craft vendors, bands, and a Kids Zone with all inflatable activities and rides.
- 5/2-5/5 - 65th Annual League City Music Fest & BBQ Cook Off - League City
Volunteers get a shirt or wristband and will be hand stamped to return to the park (for the same night as they volunteer) for the concerts. Your effort benefits the League City Lions Charities, Inc. This fundraiser helps us raise money to provide support for many local charities. Among the charitable entities receiving support from the League City Lions Club are Texas Lions Camp for Disabled Children, Boundless Playground, CCISD, FFA, Sight First Leader Dogs for the Blind, Lions Eye Bank of Texas, Helen Hall Public Library, The Lions Youth Outreach, and The Lions Quest Program, just to name a few.
- 05/04 - Sprint for Life 5K Run/Walk - Houston
If you are interested in volunteering for Sprint for Life®, there are a variety of opportunities available to show your support either before Race Day or on the day of the event. Volunteer support is very important to the success of the event. We appreciate our volunteers!
- 05/11 - TangoTab's Feed the City - Houston - Houston
Prior to the event, head over to the store and pick up the product. The more product that is brought, the more meals we will make. We request that each person attending brings some product. You can bring any of the items in any combination. Please try to bring an equal amount of meat, cheese and bread. For a full list of products to bring, please visit our website.
- 05/11 - AsiaFest 2019 - Houston
Become a part of the fun by volunteering for AsiaFest! Asia Society is looking for volunteers to assist on stage and in the family activity areas, gallery, and parking lot. Two shifts are available: 10:30 am – 2:30 pm and 1:30 pm – 5:30 pm. To volunteer for the event, please complete the online application.
- 5/17-5/18 - Empty Bowls Houston - Houston
Volunteers are an important part of Empty Bowls. Empty Bowls is a grassroots effort by artists and craftspeople in cities and towns across the country to feed the hungry in their communities and is implemented locally by Houston-area ceramists and artists working in various media, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft and the Houston Food Bank. Proceeds will benefit the Houston Food Bank. For each $1 donated to Houston Food Bank, three meals are provided to the hungry.
- 05/18 - Pull for Puppies - Houston
Pull for Puppies is always looking for generous members of the community to lend their time. Extra hands are always appreciated to make sure our events happen without any setbacks. If you have some time on your hands and wish to help for a worthy cause, we need your help with event set-up, event clean-up, score keeping, refereeing (no experience needed), and the sign-in table.
- 05/18 - PurpleStride Houston - Houston
Our continued growth and success is not possible without the dedication of our incredible volunteers. Your actions move mountains for every person affected by pancreatic cancer, and there are many ways to get involved! Interested in PurpleStride? You can help our planning committee leading up to the event or volunteer on event day to get your toes wet! If you’re interested in joining this movement outside of PurpleStride, you can volunteer with your local affiliate and work year-round to transform the face of this disease.
