- 08/01 - Summer Spin: Musical Makers - Madison
Can you feel the rhythm? Craft musical instruments from recycled materials and enjoy a live musical performance from the Madison Area Ukulele Initiative. Get ready to shake, rattle, and roll!
- 8/1-8/5 - Reebok Fit Barge on Lake Monona - Madison
Reebok and Brittingham Boats have teamed up again to bring back the popular Fit Barge. Area residents and visitors will have access to FREE fitness classes, athlete appearances, social gatherings, and more all while floating on Lake Monona on the Reebok Fit Barge.
- 8/2-8/4 - 2019 All-City Swim Meet - Madison
The annual All-City Swim Meet is one of the largest outdoor amateur meets in the country, consistently bringing in over two thousand competitors from all across the Greater Madison Area. This year's event will be held at the West Side Swim Club!
- 08/03 - Madison Vegan Fest - Madison
The fest will feature vegan exhibitors, delicious food, engaging speakers, and a fun atmosphere. This event is free and appropriate for all ages. Whether you are already vegan, thinking about it, or just curious – you’ll enjoy yourself!
- 08/06 - Lanterns for Peace - Madison
Join us at this free, family-friendly event to commemorate 74 years since the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. We remember those who lost their lives while envisioning a peaceful, nuclear-free future. Lanterns for Peace features a peace song sing-a-along, refreshments, and a chance to decorate and float an illuminated lantern at dusk. Lanterns will be launched around the time of sunset.
- 08/08 - Madison Night Market - Madison
Vendors showcase handmade products, local art, artisan gifts, prepackaged foods and fresh produce. The event includes live music, artists, special visiting food carts and pop-up restaurant experiences.
- 08/09 - Pack 'n the Park - Fitchburg
Bring the kids to Pack ‘n the Park! The fun starts at 6 PM at McKee Farms Park. There will have games, inflatables, prizes, food for purchase from the Fitchburg Optimist Club, and a movie. The movie showing will be Moana and it will start at approximately 8:15 PM.
- 08/14 - Community Night Out - Fitchburg
Join first responders and your neighbors for Fitchburg's Community Night Out. Enjoy food and refreshments, get to know your neighbors, discover community resources, meet first responders, explore emergency vehicles, and help build a safer community. There will be special visits from Med Flight and other area responders.
- 08/16 - Lil' Explorers: Pollinators - Madison
They buzz, they flutter, they help keep our environment thriving. Take a closer look at the busiest creatures in the prairie and make your own pollinator to take home. During this program we introduce our youngest community members to nature through fun, hands-on activities. All ages are welcome!
- 08/17 - Fitchburg Agora Art Fair - Fitchburg
The Agora Art Fair is proud to feature local and regional Wisconsin artists from every medium. There will also be food and beverages from local restaurants and vendors, the Wisconsin Craft Beer & Wine Garden, live music, the Children’s Art Yard, and the Hands-On Art Experience. With lots to enjoy for every member of the family, you’ll be glad you came early!
- 08/17 - Eken Park Festival - Madison
This year’s festival will feature incredible musical talent from a wide range of genres, delicious local cuisine and beer, fabulous raffle prizes, and much more! We hope to see you at this year's festival as we celebrate all our community has to offer as one of Madison's most unique neighborhoods!
- 08/19 - Concerts at McKee: Orquesta SalSoul del Mad - Fitchburg
Salsa and Soul, combining the best of two cultural worlds, Bringing together the fire of Latin rhythm and the groove of soul. Orquesta SalSoul del Mad will have young and old dancing in the aisle and on the ceiling! Food trucks from local vendors, beverages and beer are available or pack a picnic and bring family, friends and co-workers.
- 08/22 - Summer Spin: 2nd Annual Back to School Block Party - Madison
Bring the whole family to the Chazen for one last hurrah before school begins! Meet UW–Madison and community organizations as we play lawn games and make art! Jam out to live music and enjoy sweet treats! There is sure to be something for everyone!
- 08/22 - FTC Back to School Block Party - Fitchburg
We will have live music with the Soggy Prairie Band, Bucky Badger, the UW Dance Team, magic shows, balloon twisting, face painting, a photo booth and an outdoor movie.
- 8/22-8/25 - Orton Park Festival - Madison
This Marquette Neighborhood Association sponsored event is known for great music, an array of terrific vendors from local restaurants and businesses, kids games, an elegant Jazz Brunch, a rather quirky auction, and a magical aerial trapeze performance under one of the park’s great oaks.
- 8/23-8/25 - Good Neighbor Festival - Middleton
Since 1964, the Good Neighbor Festival has brought the Middleton community together during the last weekend in August. Over the past 50+ years, the festival has changed a lot. The music sounds different. There are more midway rides. The City of Middleton is a bigger place than it once was.
- 08/01 - Dominican Night in the Courtyard - Madison - $5
Learn to dance bachata then use those moves on the dance floor while listening to live music by Acoplados! Drink and food specials will celebrate our Dominican community and welcome the Dominican CrossFit attendees.

The Sugar Maple Music Festival is a two-day outdoor festival in Madison that celebrates traditional music and dance through performances, educational workshops, and interactive jam sessions. This family-friendly festival offers entertainment for people of all ages.
- 8/2-8/5 - The Amazing Acro-Cats Amaze Madison! - Madison - $23-$43
The Amazing Acro-Cats Featuring Tuna and the Rock Cats are a troupe of touring performing house cats. This one-of-a-kind, two-hour long purr-formance features talented domesticated house cats rolling on balls, riding skateboards, jumping through hoops, and more!
- 08/07 - Glass Etching Workshop: Beer & Cocktail Glasses - Madison - $25-$45
Join us for an evening of drink and DIY fun and create a set of custom glassware, using trendy beer can-style glasses and/or traditional rocks/old fashioned glasses. Regardless of the type and quantity of glasses you choose, you’ll be able to etch them using fun design stencils. At the end of the night you’ll go home with a new skill and a set of custom glassware to prove it!

Summer is too short to stay on shore, so join us for a fun evening on Lake Mendota! Bring your family to the Memorial Union Terrace to enjoy a night of paddling, sightseeing and games with Outdoor UW paddling instructors.
- 08/08 - Revel at Madison Night Market - Madison - $15-$20
Visit our Revel booth at the Madison Night Market to make a quick and easy DIY project- customized insulated tumblers! We’ll have individual black and white vinyl letters that you can use to customize your tumbler!
- 08/10 - No Fear All Fun 5K Trail Run/Walk - Madison - Free-$25
The No Fear All Fun 5K Trail Run/walk was created in memory of Michael Neill, a LaFollette High School Cross Country runner. Michael loved being part of such a great sport but also really enjoyed helping younger kids. The purpose of this race is to raise money for Madison Middle School Running Clubs.
- 08/11 - Barks for Parks! - Verona - $5
This afternoon of fun will include live music, food, and entertainment for both pups and their people. Proceeds from this year’s event will be used to build a shade structure at the Badger Prairie Dog Park. Dogs are free but must have a daily or annual dog permit. These can be purchased at the event or in advance through our website.
- 08/15 - Revel x Kendra Scott: You're a Gem Party - Madison - $15
You’re a gem, darling! And you deserve to enjoy an evening of gorgeous accessories and jewelry-inspired DIYs. Make plans to join us at the Kendra Scott store in Hilldale and get ready to mingle, shop, sparkle and create at this fun event!
- 8/16-8/14 - Hephaestus - Madison - $10-$33
Hephaestus tells the story of the physically deformed, oft-forgotten Greek God of fire. Cast down to Earth by his mother, the jealous and powerful Hera, he reaches into his soul and identifies his strength as an artisan to win back his place on Mount Olympus. It is like a mall for geeks! GeekCraft Expo provides geeky, super-fun make-n-take crafting activities for kids & families free of charge! For kids (and adults) who are into superheroes, gaming and/or geeky things in general, GeekCraft Expo is the perfect day out. Cosplay is highly encouraged (get one more use out of that Halloween costume!).
- 08/29 - Revel x HotelRED: Etched Slate Coaster Workshop - Madison - $25
Join us for a fun evening at HotelRED sipping, snacking, and DIYing! - 08/02 - Brewgrass Fridays: Charlie Parr with Al Scorch - Madison - Free admission
Enjoy Madison’s best views, a Door County Brewing Co. Taproom & Music Hall brew, and a good old-fashioned Wisconsin fish fry while listening to some of the nation’s best Bluegrass bands. Fish Fry available in The Icehouse at 5 PM, live music starts at 6 PM.
- 08/03 - Madison Makers summer Market & Pub-Crawl - Madison - Free admission
Shop 75 makers with a drink in hand! This is an ALL AGES, family friendly event. This event is free, and no tickets are needed to come and enjoy the fun! You only pay for the items you want to buy from vendors, and the drinks or food you want to consume.
- 08/03 - National Mustard Day - Middleton - Free admission
Come honor the King of Condiments! National Mustard Day is celebrated annually on the first Saturday in August. It is a fun-filled, sun-splashed day for the whole family. Come for the music, games and other entertainment, stay for the hot dogs, brats, FREE mustard sampling, and more!
- 08/08 - Drink-N-Draw at the Museum - Madison - $10-$30
What better way to learn about the Traveling Art Exhibits than through drawing? No artistic experience is necessary for this fun evening of drawing and cocktails. As we talk about veteran artists, participants will sketch objects and photos from our collection.
- 8/11-8/18 - Black Restaurant Week - Madison - Varies
Each participating food vendor will have a special during the week. The theme this year is “Harnessing the Power of Black Excellence.” The Madison Black Chamber is happy to promote Black Restaurant Week as one way of actively supporting Black businesses.
- 8/15-8/18 - Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival - Sun Prairie - $1-$25
There is a parade Thursday night on Main Street, live bands Friday and Saturday night in the beer shelter, food and game booths, a carnival, family entertainment stage, fresh and steamed corn. Corn will only be served Saturday and Sunday from noon-7 PM.
- 08/17 - Stoughton Coffee Break Festival - Stoughton - Free admission
Coffee Break Festival is held the third Saturday in August with a Coffee Brew-Off, Bean Spitting Contest, Cup O' Joe All Wheels Show, arts and crafts, pork roast, beer garden, and more!
- 08/18 - Yum Yum Fest - Madison - Free-$20.25
Yum Yum Fest is a celebration of artistry in food held in Madison, WI by the Madison Area Chef's Network. It involves some of the most talented minds in the industry!
- 8/2-8/4 - 2019 All-City Swim Meet - Madison
We need volunteers! Sign up for Clerk of Course volunteer spots, Timer volunteer spots, and more! Additional volunteer opportunities include helping with awards, apparel, parking, our Zero Waste program and many more facets of the meet. These are especially great opportunities for high school students who are looking to add certified volunteer hours for high school honor society requirements.

No matter what time commitment you are able to make, you will make a difference. A variety of opportunities and shifts are available, and all help is appreciated.
- 08/03 - National Mustard Day - Madison
Thank you for your interest in volunteering at National Mustard Day! In addition to the help of our paid staff and labor crews from Event Essentials, National Mustard Day requires many extra helpers. It's a lot of work but also tons of fun! To show our appreciation, all volunteers will receive a free National Mustard Day souvenir (past years have included items such as a t-shirt or a cap).
- 08/08 - Fleet Feet Madison Aquathon - Madison
Volunteers are needed for each Aquathon to help them run smoothly! Sign up and help volunteer!
- 08/10 - No Fear All Fun 5K Trail Run/Walk - Madison
The purpose of this race is to raise money for Madison Middle School Running Clubs (Sennett and Whitehorse). These clubs are currently run by volunteers. The running clubs are a fun way to get our kids outside, help them get involved in exercising, and maybe find a passion for running.
- 08/11 - Barks for Parks! - Verona
We need volunteers to make this event a success! Consider signing up for a volunteer shift to help us out. Volunteers will get a Dane County Parks volunteer t-shirt as a thank you.
- 8/15-8/18 - Sun Prairie Sweet Corn Festival - Sun Prairie
Volunteers make the event the success that it is! We could not do it without you. We hope you will join us for the Sweet Corn Festival. As always, volunteers will receive a complimentary T‐shirt as a token of appreciation for your hard work and dedication.
- 08/17 - Fitchburg Agora Art Fair - Fitchburg
One great way to experience the Agora Art Fair from the inside is to volunteer. We are seeking several adults to help with the event from start to finish. All volunteers will get a free t-shirt and beverage, and the chance to get out into the sunshine and enjoy the day.
- 08/17 - 11th Annual Madison Mini Marathon - Madison
We couldn’t do it without you! Race weekend at the Mini takes more than 700 volunteers, and every single one of you is important to the success of the event! Come support your favorite runner and help in a multitude of roles, including the starting line, water stations, aiding runners along the route & handing out food and medals at the finish line.
- 08/18 - 2019 Try Cambridge Tri - Cambridge
The success of the event is not possible without the help of wonderful volunteers like you! Volunteers who sign up please take note to your report times for various duties. As an added bonus, all volunteers will receive a free Triathlon t-shirt with "Volunteer" printed on the back.
- 08/20 - Seasons of Caring: Community Kickoff - Madison
Join us in celebrating Seasons of Caring: Community Kickoff by volunteering individually or as a team at The Madison Mallards Duck Pond. If you are unable to stay for the volunteer projects, register to join us for food, fun, and a short program! We are also doing a diaper drive and collection at Kickoff. Please come with a package of diapers if you can! Thank you for being a #Champion4Change!
- 08/24 - Momentum Urban Arts Fest - Monona
Murals will be painted on buildings from sun up to sun down by a variety of street artists from Madison, from Wisconsin and from other parts of the country. The Momentum Urban Arts Fest will feature 50-60 street artists performing live painting on buildings up and down Monona Drive and on the east side of Madison.
- 08/31 - Rockin Brews Marathon - Monona
We need your help to make the Rockin Brews Marathon safe and enjoyable. We will donate $8 per hour that you volunteer to Run Strong Madison. This is a great non-profit in our community and your help is appreciated. Thank you! You will receive an official "I'M ROCKIN IT!" t-shirt, a gift bag and free food and drinks in the finish line beer festival after your shift!
