How to Help Moore and Shawnee, Oklahoma

David Sung | May 22, 2013

Our thoughts and concerns are with the residents in both Shawnee and Moore, OK, communities that were recently devastated by powerful tornadoes. If you’re looking for ways to help donate, we have compiled a list of organizations that are directly helping. Before donating to your chosen organization, please check the links below. As the donations come in, these organizations may begin to ask for a monetary donation as they begin to have a surplus of other donations. Any level of assistance will help the residents and towns as they begin the task of trying to rebuild their communities.

American Red Cross-Donations accepted include blood, non-perishable foods, clothing, or money at your local Red Cross locations.

The easiest and fastest way is to text the word REDCROSS to 90999, and $10 will be donated via your monthly cell phone bill. That number will directly funnel funds to crisis assistance in Moore, OK.

Salvation Army- Donations are accepted at your nearby Salvation Army location. Money donations are accepted online, through U.S. mail, or text STORM to 80888 to make a $10 donation through your mobile carrier. Confirm the donation by responding “yes” to the follow-up text.

Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma- In partnership with Oklahoma Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), the food bank is asking for financial donations in order to purchase necessary resources based on circumstances. Donations are accepted through their website. Or you can text FOOD to 32333, and each text is a donation of $10.

Humane Society & Central Oklahoma Humane Society- Because of the devastation to residential areas, many pets are without shelter or food while they are separated by their families. Monetary donations are accepted through their online donation form, or you can call their office at (405) 607-8991. Please inform the office that the donation is for the disaster relief fund.

First Response Non-profit Organizations

Samaritan’s Purse- This organization is asking for volunteers to help with the response in Shawnee and Moore, Oklahoma. Donations are also accepted online.

AmeriCares- AmeriCares also mobilizes an emergency response team to any region needing emergency disaster relief. The response team also continually makes follow- up visits and helps with ongoing recovery efforts. Donations are also accepted online.

Team Rubicon- As an organizational team of military veterans, these first responders combine their skills and experience to implement emergency response teams. Donations are also accepted online in the form of a one-time payment, or donations can be invested monthly for continued support to these first responders.
