Interesting Facts About Ashland, WI

Located on the Chequamegon Bay on Lake Superior, Ashland, Wisconsin is a small city of around 8,100 residents. Having been claimed by the French, English, Spanish and eight separate Indian nations, the Ashland area has a long and tumultuous history. The early European pioneers came to the area to take advantage of the flourishing fur trade, logging industry, and the natural ports along the bay. The first Americans settled here in 1854, and the city was incorporated in 1887.

Endless miles of beautiful shoreline along the bay, public beaches and a full-service marina keep visitors flocking to the Ashland area. Nature lovers can immerse themselves at the 500-acre Copper Falls State Park for fishing, birding or just taking in the rich scenery as miles of nature trails crisscross the park. One of the most scenic areas in the city is the Lake Superior Waterfront Trail - a 10-mile trail that connects several waterfront areas.
