More Information about Brigham City, UT

The land that would one day become Brigham City, Utah was originally explored and settled by Mormon explorer, William Davis during the first half of the nineteenth century. In 1853, Mormon President, Brigham Young, gave orders to one of his lieutenants, Lorenzo Snow, to create a more permanent city at the settlement founded by William Davis. True to his orders, Lorenzo Snow began work on establishing the new city. When his work was completed in 1855, he named the new town, Box Elder, Utah. Two decades later in 1877, with the passing of Brigham Young, the people of Box Elder decided to rename their town to Brigham City to commemorate the life of their fallen leader.

Brigham City is now home to nearly 18,000 people and sits on 14 square miles of land in Box Elder County, Utah. The city is currently known for two very unrelated items, missiles and peaches. The missiles come from the Thoikol Chemical Corporation’s aerospace division located in Brigham City that manufactures missiles and the solid rocket boosters for the Space Shuttle. Brigham City’s peaches are put on display during the city’s annual Peach Days celebration. During the celebration, the center of town is closed off to car traffic and the festival is celebrated with a variety of activities that last for 4 days.
