The first settlers planted roots in the area around modern day Caledonia in the late 1830s. The first settlement was named Caledonia Station and it grew around the first rail line and depot that came through in early 1870. Eventually, the word “Station” was removed from the city’s name and in 1888 the city of Caledonia became officially incorporated.
