In 1880, the residents of Layton, Utah began a legal battle for the right to become a separate city. Originally a part of Kaysville, Utah, the people living in the area now known as Layton, began to notice that they were paying municipal taxes to Kaysville without receiving any municipal services from Kaysville. Eventually, the legal battle reached the US Supreme court, with the court ruling in favor of the people of Layton in the early 1900s. The city of Layton was officially incorporated in 1920.

Layton, Utah is located about 25 miles north of Salt Lake City, along Interstate 15. According to the 2010 US Census, Layton had an estimated population of 67,311. The city has a rich cultural heritage that is showcased at the Layton Heritage Museum. The museum features a collection of more than 2,000 artifacts, over 3,000 photographs, and other exhibits that document Layton’s evolution since 1850. The city is best known for its breath taking scenery and active arts council that regularly hosts concerts, plays, and art exhibitions throughout the year.
