Additional information about Atlanta, TX

Atlanta, Texas is a small city located in Cass County, Texas roughly ten miles from the Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana border. Founded in 1871, Atlanta began to grow rapidly, as most newly established towns do, when a railroad was constructed through the city. The railroad allowed Atlanta to cultivate a robust lumber industry and by the 1890’s, the city had nearly 2,000 people. This initial period of growth came to an end during the Great Depression that caused Atlanta to enter into a period of decline. Then, in the mid-1930’s, oil was discovered in Cass County and Atlanta began a new era of prosperity.

Atlanta is now the largest city in Cass County, TX with nearly 6,000 residents. Speaking of residents, you would be hard pressed to find another town with such an eclectic collection of former residents that would go on to make something of their lives. In the world of sports, Atlanta, TX has produced Major Leaguer Drew Stubbs, NFL running back Derrick Blaylock, and Ted Thompson, general manager of the Green Bay Packers. In the pop culture arena, Atlanta, TX was once home to actor Kevin Rahm, country and western singer Tracy Lawrence, and comedian Ellen Degeneres. For a town of its relatively small size, Atlanta has indeed been home to some very prominent people.
