Known as the “City of Homes”, Bellaire, Texas was founded in 1908 by Mr. William Wright Baldwin. According to Mr. Baldwin, the city was originally plotted on farmland six miles south of Houston, TX to serve as a residential community and as a center for agricultural trade. Ten years after its founding, Bellaire, TX was officially incorporated in 1918. The incorporation stopped the city of Houston’s attempt at annexing Bellaire. Over the next three decades, Houston began to systematically annex more and more of the land around Bellaire, effectively halting Bellaire’s ability to expand. Bellaire, TX is now almost entirely surrounded by Houston, TX.
