More details on Dickinson, Texas

Back in the early 1820’s, a man named John Dickinson purchased a large tract of land along what is now known as the Dickinson Bayou. A few years later, a town was established on this land and named in honor of Mr. Dickinson. The town of Dickinson, TX remained a tiny settlement until the 1850’s when the Galveston, Houston, and Henderson railroad came through. Serving as a prominent rest stop between Houston and the port city of Galveston, Texas, the city began to flourish and grow. In its history, Dickinson was once home to as many as three railroad stops, a few popular country clubs, and a casino, all built to attract tourists using the railroad between Houston and Galveston.

The city of Dickinson, Texas currently sits at the far southeastern end of the Houston metro area along Interstate 45. When compared to its neighboring towns, Dickinson has a relatively small population of only 18,680 and area of only ten square miles. Most of the residents commute to work, making the city the embodiment of a bedroom community.
