Located along the Rio Grande Valley, the city of Edinburg, Texas was originally known as Chapin, TX after Mr. Dennis Chapin, a local businessman that helped promote the town in its early days of existence. When Mr. Chapin became a suspect in a murder investigation, the town decided to change its name and chose Edinburg in honor of another prominent local resident. Today, Edinburg occupies over 37 square miles, is home to roughly 81,000 residents, and serves as the county seat of Hidalgo County, TX.

There are also a number of places to visit and events to see in Edinburg. For example, every February the city hosts Fiesta Edinburg, a celebration that commemorates the city becoming the county seat of Hidalgo County. Several bands play throughout the weekend and many foods and arts and crafts activities are available as well. One can also explore The Museum of South Texas History. With exhibits ranging from the prehistoric area to modern times, it is a good place to learn more about the local area and its role in the history of Texas and the United States. There is also the Hidalgo County Veterans War Memorial, which honors those from Hidalgo County that made the ultimate sacrifice in different four wars.

Finally, Edinburg is home to the University of Texas - Pan American. This four year state university enrolls close to 20,000 students, is staffed by nearly 1,000 faculty members and is one of Edinburg’s largest employers.
