More details about Forney, Texas

Forney, Texas is located in the northwest corner of Kaufman County just 20 miles east of Dallas, TX. Originally named Brooklyn by the early settlers, the city’s name was changed to Forney in honor of a local railroad official, John Forney, who oversaw the construction of the first rail line to come through the city. As with most small towns, the railroad brought much prosperity and growth to the area and transformed Forney from a small rural settlement into an established thriving city. Forney is now home to just under 15,000 residents and was named the “Antique Capital of Texas” by the Texas Legislature in 1987.

As part of the Dallas, Fort Worth Metroplex, residents of Forney are close enough to the big city to enjoy the jobs, economic prosperity, and entertainment that the Metroplex offers but still far enough away to enjoy the small town living that Forney offers. Examples of this small town living include the city’s “2nd Saturday” Arts Festival in downtown Forney. At the event, residents and visitors can enjoy a wide range of art-related activities, shopping, and live music from Pickers in the Park. Forney is also home to the Spellman Amphitheater which hosts a number of concerts and the city’s movies in the park series that showcases free outdoor movies.
