Plano, TX facts

Plano can trace its history all the way back to the early days of The Republic of Texas when the area was sparsely settled and ravaged by raids from local Native American tribes that controlled most of the territory. Made up of a collection of small settlements, the area that would one day become the city of Plano, Texas began to come together when a sawmill was constructed nearby in the mid-1840’s. Shortly thereafter, a general store was established and the settlements were on their way to becoming a permanent fixture in what was, at that time, untamed frontier land.

Today, Plano can lay claim to being one of the most successful cities in all of Texas and the entire United States. Currently, it is the ninth most populous city in the State and home base for several of the country’s largest corporations. Within the past two decades, Plano, Texas has been declared the “best place to live in the western United States”, the “wealthiest city in the United States”, and the “safest city in America” by major media outlets such as CNN Money Magazine and Forbes. It is also widely regarded as having one of the best public school systems in all of Texas. The only foreseeable problem that Plano faces is access to additional land. The city is now completely surrounded by other incorporated cities and has no more room for expansion.
